PNC Financial Services Group Inc. (PNC) has selected Interpublic
Group of Cos.' (IPG) Deutsch as the bank's advertising agency of
record.
Independent Michigan firm Doner has been aiding the crafting of
PNC's ad efforts since 2001.
The win for Interpublic comes at a time of falling ad spending.
For PNC, it is now one of the nation's biggest banks by assets
through its year-end acquisition of National City, which doubled
PNC's size.
Jane Bedford, whose consultancy was overseeing the ad-agency
selection process, told Adweek last month that beside Deutsch,
fellow Interpublic unit McCann Erickson along with Omnicom Group
Inc.'s (OMC) TBWAChiatDay and Publicis Groupe SA (PUBGY) Leo
Burnett were in the running for the PNC account.
Other Deutsch clients include Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) and
Anheuser-Busch Inbev NV (ABI.BT).
