(Updating with statement from Acotel on earlier press report)
MILAN (Thomson Financial) - Acotel Group SpA, the Italian wireless network
operator, said its subsidiary Noverca has not yet signed any mobile virtual
network operator (MVNO) agreements.
Earlier the daily MF, in an unsourced report, said Acotel is close to
reaching an agreement to use the network of Telecom Italia SpA to offer mobile
phone services.
Acotel could announce the accord in the next few days, MF said.
Acotel is preparing to launch a low-cost internet-based mobile phone offer
through Noverca.
Intesa Sanpaolo SpA, a shareholder of Telecom Italia, owns 4.75 pct of
Acotel and 10 pct of Noverca.
At the time of the agreement with Intesa Sanpaolo, Alcotel said the
agreement is conditional on an MVNO agreement being reached with a mobile phone
network operator.
