MILAN (Thomson Financial) - Banca Italease SpA could sell its Mercantile
Leasing unit with advisor Rothschild sending documentation to industrial and
private equity groups to describe the company to see if they are potentially
interested, daily Il Sole 24 Ore reported without citing sources.
In 2007 Mercantile Leasing made a net profit of 4 million euros and total
revenues of 76 million euros.
At last week's shareholders meeting Italease chairman Lino Benassi said that
the group, which was hit last year by massive losses on derivatives, has
received several expressions of interest and will evaluate partnership proposals
in the next few weeks or months.
He also said that the group is working "on several fronts" and that in
theory there could be more than one partner.
