MILAN (Thomson Financial) - Enel SpA said it has chosen Repower Systems AG
and Gamesa to supply a total of 552 MW of wind power turbines for projects in
Italy, France and Spain.
The two suppliers were chosen after a competitive tender launched at the end
of 2007, in which all the major world suppliers participated, it said.
Repower will supply turbines for 263 MW, comprising 158 MW for plants to be
sited in France and 105 MW for plants in Italy, it said.
Gamesa will supply the other 289 MW of kit, comprising 214 MW for Spanish
sites and 75 MW in Italy, it said.
The turbines, each with a capacity of 2.0 to 2.5 MW, will be delivered
between 2009 and 2011, it said.
Enel is investing 6.8 billion euros in renewable energy sources, to boost
their capacity to 7,382 MW in 2012 from 3,112 last year.
The company said it plans to increase its wind energy production to 4,752 MW
at end-2012 from 857 MW at the end of 2007.
