MILAN (Thomson Financial) - Eni SpA CEO Paolo Scaroni said the company is
not planning to invest in Alitalia SpA because it is not part of the group's
strategy and that the company's statutes would not allow for such an investment.
Separately, Compagnie Industriali Riunite SpA chairman and main owner Carlo
De Benedetti said he has no plans to be part of a consortium to takeover the
loss-making, state-controlled airline.
De Benedetti said he had been asked to join a consortium of Italian
businessmen, supported by incoming prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, but is not
taking part in the consortium.
Earlier today, Pirelli & C SpA chairman Marco Tronchetti Provera said his
company could invest "a few million euro" in a clear and transparent project.
