Finmeccanica says does not have Bombardier memorandum on an Ansaldo STS tie-up

        MILAN (Thomson Financial) - Finmeccanica SpA said it is not in possession of
a memorandum reportedly prepared by Bombardier Inc to merge Finmeccanica SpA's
40 percent affiliate Ansaldo STS SpA with Bombardier's signalling unit.
    Earlier on Wednesday, La Stampa reported that Bombardier is proposing a
merger of Ansaldo STS with its own signalling activities as well as Bombardier
buying Finmeccanica's rail unit Ansaldo Breda.
    "In response to press reports, Finmeccanica states that it is not in
possession of any memorandum relative to operations between Finmeccanica and
Bombardier with regard to Ansaldo STS," Finmeccanica said.
    La Stampa newspaper said Bombardier chairman Laurent Beaudouin has prepared
a preliminary memorandum to propose to the Finmeccanica board on the merger of
the two groups signalling operations.
    In a separate statement, Ansaldo STS said it is also not in possession of
any memorandum on an Ansaldo STS/Bombardier operation.
