MILAN (Thomson Financial) - Finmeccanica SpA is expected to win a
forthcoming deal to provide Russia's air control system, the daily Il Corriere
della Sera said citing Russian sources.
The contract is worth several hundred million euros and could lead to the
creation of a local joint venture and the transfer of technology, it said.
The order could be the first of a series of future Russian deals that the
company may win in the helicopter, train and railway system sectors, the
newspaper said.
Thanks to intense lobbying since 2005 and the relationship between the
incoming Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi and outgoing Russian president
Vladimir Putin, Finmeccanica expects Russia to become one of its main markets
along with Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States, it added.
In 2007, Finmeccanica achieved revenues of about 750 million euros in
Russia, according to the newspaper.
