MILAN (Thomson Financial) - Hera SpA will not reach a decision on alliances
at today's shareholder pact meeting, said Giorgio Pighi, mayor of the city of
Modena, which is a member of the utility's shareholder pact, according to the
Finanza & Mercati daily.
"We will examine the several options that emerged last week, but we don't
expect to give a mandate for any particular solution," Pighi was quoted as
saying by the newspaper.
Potential partners for Hera are Iride SpA, Acea SpA, and Enia SpA, it said.
Separately, the Il Sole 24 Ore daily said the possibility of a tie-up with
Iride is gaining greater support, but in the short term any merger agreement
looks unlikely.
The municipalities of Modena, Forli, and Ravenna prefer a merger with Iride,
while Sergio Cofferati, mayor of Bologna, which is Hera's main shareholder,
prefers Acea, it said.
