WASHINGTON (AP) - Technology trade group AeA spent $256,000 in the first
quarter to lobby on high-speed Internet service, online advertising and other
issues, according to a disclosure report.
The group -- which counts Microsoft Corp., Dell Inc. and Google Inc. among
hundreds of members -- also lobbied the federal government on immigration
reform, legislation to increase funding for science-based agencies and creation
of technology, engineering and math programs, the report said.
The U.S. technology industry has been aggressively lobbying Congress to
increase the limit on a certain class of visas to get increased access to
high-tech foreign workers, which companies said they need to stay globally
competitive.
Other AeA issues include international trade matters, including free trade
agreements, legislation promoting use of electronic health records and federal
accounting standards.
In the January-to-March period, AeA, formerly known as the American
Electronics Association, lobbied Congress, U.S. International Trade Commission,
U.S. Trade Representative's office, National Security Council, Commerce
Department and other agencies, according to the report filed with the House
clerk's office April 21.
