MILAN (Thomson Financial) - Sergio Chiamparino, mayor of the city of Turin,
said he is open to merging Iride SpA and A2A - the utility formed by the merger
of AEM and ASM - if the combined stake held by local municipalities in the new
entity is below 30 pct.
"If municipalities hold no more than 30 pct of the new company's capital it
could be an interesting hypothesis. As things are right now (a merger) would not
make sense for us," he said in an interview with the Il Sole 24 Ore daily.
Chiamparino said that the first merger option for Iride remains Hera SpA.
The cities of Turin and Genoa are the main shareholders in Iride with a
combined 58.3 pct stake. A2A is controlled by the cities of Milan and Brescia.
