TotalEnergies SE said late on Tuesday that it will hold talks with non-striking collectives, and that the striking CGT union will be welcome to join if it ends all blockages at company sites by Wednesday midday.

The oil company said on Sunday that it was willing to bring forward annual wage negotiations with some of its French employees provided blockages at its refining sites and fuel-storage depots were lifted. The General Confederation of Labor union, or CGT, said Monday that it viewed the offer as blackmail.

The strike action, which began at the end of last month, has led to shortages at French gas stations. Striking workers have also caused blockages at Exxon Mobil Corp.-owned Esso sites in France.

The French government has said it will intervene if an agreement isn't reached between the company and worker representatives. "We won't allow the situation to worsen," Transportation Minister Clement Beaune told radio station RMC on Tuesday.
