FTSE 100 Seen Opening Lower After Tech Earnings Disappoint
0743 GMT - The FTSE 100 is expected to open lower following
gains in the previous session after interest-rate decisions from
the Bank of England and the European Central Bank. IG futures data
show the London index opening down 6 points after closing 59 points
higher Thursday. The ECB and BOE both raised rates by 50 basis
points on Thursday but their communications were interpreted by
markets to suggest a peak is nearing, boosting equities. "Today
will probably not be as fantastic as yesterday, as Apple, Amazon
and Google announced earnings after the bell yesterday, and they
all disappointed," Swissquote Bank analyst Ipek Ozkardeskaya
writes. Meanwhile, a key focus Friday is the U.S. nonfarm payrolls
report at 1330 GMT. (renae.dyer@wsj.com)
