Air Liquide SA said Friday that revenue fell slightly in the first quarter, while it confirmed its views for the rest of the year.

The French industrial-gas supplier said revenue fell 0.7% on year to 5.33 billion euros ($6.41 billion) in the first quarter. On a comparable basis, revenue rose 3.8%.

Revenue from its gas and services activities--which represents 96% of the group sales--dropped 1.7% to EUR5.10 billion in the quarter, while revenue jumped 45% at its engineering and construction business and rose 22% at its global markets and technologies division, it said. On a comparable basis, gas and service's revenue rose 2.8%.

"In 2021, in a context of limited local lockdowns in the first half of the year and recovery in the second half, Air Liquide is confident in its ability to further increase its operating margin and to deliver recurring net profit growth, at constant exchange rates," the company said, confirming what was said in February during its 2020 results.
