DuPont de Nemours Inc., Corteva Inc. and Chemours Co. have reached a settlement that includes agreements on how to handle liabilities related to a class of chemicals that has been linked to health concerns.

The settlement concerns expenses from liabilities related to perfluorooctanoic acid, or PFOA, and related compounds, the companies said Friday.

The compounds were used in consumer and industrial applications, but have been blamed for health problems such as cancer by researchers.

The settlement reached by the companies dictates how they will share costs arising out of legal disputes related to the materials, they said.

The companies said they also agreed to resolve litigation in Ohio related to the chemicals for $83 million.

The materials at issue, called per- or polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, have been found in drinking water in some communities.
