Alphabet Inc.'s Google Cloud and Vodafone Group PLC agreed to a
six-year partnership for the development of a data platform to
process and transfer significant data volumes from multiple systems
into the cloud.
The U.K. telecommunications company said in a statement
published Monday that the project would involve up to 1,000
employees in Spain, the U.K. and the U.S. from both companies.
Vodafone will transfer its data to Google Cloud as part of the
deal to develop the platform, to be called Nucleus.
The platform will be capable of processing around 50 terabytes
of data a day, equivalent to 25,000 hours of high-definition video,
Vodafone said.
"Telecommunications firms are increasingly differentiating their
customer experiences through the use of data and analytics, and
this has never been more important than during the current
pandemic," Google Cloud Chief Executive Thomas Kurian said.
