Daimler AG's Mercedes-Benz said Wednesday that car sales in the
third quarter fell significantly as the current semiconductor
supply shortage hit the premium car maker's production.
World-wide sales at the auto maker's Mercedes-Benz Cars division
declined 30.5% to 434,784 vehicles in the quarter. Mercedes-Benz
passenger cars sales in the three-month period fell sharply in all
regions, the car maker said.
"The world-wide supply shortage of certain semiconductor
components affected global deliveries to customers in 3Q,
especially in the month of September," the company said.
"The chip supply situation remains volatile and the shortage is
expected to continue to impact the upcoming quarters in terms of
production and sales," it added.
