A special report from Green Chip Stocks
In 1876, Nikolaus Otto designed an engine that would reign for more than 100 years.

Today, with gasoline prices averaging $3 a gallon, one tiny $1.95 company has just created...

It's 600% more powerful than today's 4-stroke engines

It runs on six different types of fuel, from diesel and gas to ethanol and hydrogen

And it can power everything from blenders and weekwackers to cars and Jumbo Jets

As testing finishes up, U.S., European and Chinese military officials and several automotive companies are looking it as a way to save billions of dollars in energy costs

Dear Reader:

It will be known as one of the greatest sneak attacks that ever hit the energy market.

And it's going to catch almost everyone off guard.

You see, while all the 'hot' trends in energy have been focusing on renewable and clean-burning fuels, this company was hard at work focusing on the heart of the problem - the engine.

What they perfected, through more than 20 years of research and testing, has the US, European and Chinese militaries along with several big automakers whispering massive deals and lining up at the door.

Now I don't have time to give you all of the details. But I do have a full-blown report that gives you the whole shebang about the technology. In a nutshell, here's what has them all worked up...

From gasoline to diesel... to renewables such as ethanol and hydrogen, this engine can run off of 6 different forms of fuel. and it's the only rotary motor ever built that can run off of diesel

It has only 13 moving parts... compared to the 40 moving parts of today's conventional piston engines

It has universal applications: At only half the weight of a typical motor... it can be used in everything from weed-whackers and hand-drills to automobiles, boats and jumbo jets

Plus the new motor is 2X as powerful and uses 30% less fuel!

And that's just the beginning.

I initially recommended this company to my Green Chip Stock readers in March, when it was going for $0.50 a share. Since then we're sitting on more than 150% gains.

But that's just the tip of the iceberg.

You see, they just finished inking a deal with a top-notch Canadian manufacturing company to mass-produce their engines.

AND, in order to maximize the security of their work, they just extended their patents for another 20 years!

Best part is - the market is still completely unaware of the company and its blockbuster renewable energy technology.

But when the market discovers it though, I expect this stock to take off like a Ferrari at Le Mans.
Meet Jeff Siegel

Jeff Siegel is the managing editor of Green Chip Stocks, an investment advisory service that has had stunning success in 2005 with portfolio returns of over 39% for the year... and for 2006 he's already up more than 65%. Jeff focuses on stocks in the emerging and lucrative organic food and renewable energy industries.

Jeff is a new breed of investor. Part entrepreneur, part Renaissance man, Jeff is an accomplished musician and writer, having recorded and performed all over the world - from London to Rome to New York. He was even called upon to score part of the latest Exorcist prequel.

From 1994 to 2001, Jeff worked for Agora Publishing, one of the largest financial newsletter publishers in the world.

In the past 4 years, he traveled across America searching for mega-trends that'll usher in a new generation of wealth.

Once a week in Green Chip Stocks, Jeff highlights investment opportunities in the fast-growing "Green" market.

Here's why...

On the morning of April 18... as I was checking out the Green Chip Portfolio (now up +85% since last year), I came across a press release that nearly knocked me out of my chair.

It was an announcement that's literally going to turn this tiny $1.95 engineering company into a household name.

You see, the company's technology is starting to get some major attention. In fact, the company's motor will be featured on CNN, CNBC, MSNBC and Fox.

That's huge news.

But it gets even better

Because the Pentagon has to cut its petroleum usage by 20% (because of Executive Order 13149), the military is currently testing this company's new motor for UAVs.

If the test goes well, it could be used in everything from UAVs to Humvees to Navy ships.

And that's why I'm sending you this urgent recommendation so you can get in this stock today. Because, starting now, the rally to $3 to $4 a share will have already begun.

Make no mistake. What you are about to read here is the rare kind of opportunity that every Wall Street fat cat dreams of finding when they sleep at night. Something that could realistically give you a solid 100%... even 200% gain within the next three weeks.

God Bless the Press!

You see, we've seen, time and time again how explosive the renewable energy market is becoming. And it's just not environmentalists getting in on the act. Everybody recognizes the need to get off oil.

I'm not talking about just Joe Investor either. I'm talking about everyone. Even the richest man on the planet, Bill Gates, is buying up shares in renewable energy and ethanol.

Microsoft Corp. Chairman Bill Gates last week invested $84 million in ethanol, and fellow computer pioneers are following that strategy in anticipation that technology will help wean America from its oil addiction. -April 18, 2006

``I put forward an energy initiative that would make our dependence on Middle Eastern oil a thing of the past.'' -George Bush, April 15, 2006

"The AES Corporation-one of the world's largest global power companies, with 2005 revenues of US$11.1 billion-announced plans to invest approximately $1 billion over the next three years to expand the company's alternative energy business..." -April 17, 2006

The company Bill Gates invested in - Pacific Ethanol- is a stock I recommended to my subscribers this past January. We got in around $10 a share.

Today?

Well look for yourself:

The stock is up 101% in the Green Chip portfolio.

Brother, You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet

With oil hitting record highs every day it seems... and gasoline prices shooting up quicker than Whitney Houston in a swank hotel bathroom, one of the biggest pushes the renewable industry has ever seen is about to happen.

And that's why this $1.95 engineering company's revolutionary motor is about to become a household name - starting now.

And that's why I'm writing to you today. I want you to get in while it's still only $1.95.

But you have to be asking by now, "What is so great about this company?"

Check this out...

Nikolaus Otto... Outta Here!
Under the hood of almost every car on the road today sits a four-stroke internal combustion engine (ICE).

Though there have been numerous modifications to it over the years, the basic concept of the ICE is the same today as it was when it was invented by Karl Otto in 1876.

But the automotive industry - as well as the agricultural, construction, military, Homeland Security and even landscaping industries - may soon be revolutionized by this new rotary motor that has 2 to 3 times the power and weighs half as much as a typical ICE.

That's right, after a full 19 years of testing, the 139 year old four-stroke internal combustion engine is about to become as useful as a horse and buggy in the Daytona 500.

All because this tiny engineering company did the impossible - it built and successfully tested a new engine that's far more efficient, powerful, smaller, lighter and easier to maintain than any engine in use today.

Plus - it's a consumer's paradise!

Compared to the conventional internal combustion engine, this baby runs nearly silent, has thousands (yes, literally thousands) of applications and - here's the best part - it isn't held hostage by foreign oil.

That's because the engine can run on just about anything you could give it, from fossil fuels, such as gasoline and diesel, all the way to renewables, such as, hydrogen and ethanol - interchangeably!

That means that while the hydrogen and/or ethanol filling stations are coming up, people will now be able to make the transition, with the same vehicle if it runs on this motor.

The Department of Defense is already testing out this company's engine in their UAVs, which are going to be a multi-billion dollar market in the future - not to mention what the big three automakers are planning.

As you can imagine, when this news reaches viewers of Fox News, CNBC, MSNBC and CNN, Wall Street investors and fat cats are going to have a field day with this company...then the fastest gains will already be made.

Now, I could go on talking about this company for hours on end, but time is a MAJOR factor here and I've already prepared a special, free report on this company for you that lays out all the juicy details. And in one moment, I'm going to show you exactly how to get it. The name of the report is Instant Gains: The Tiny Engine that Could. And you can get your hands on it in a few minutes.

But first, let me say...

Welcome to Green Chip Stocks
Even though ethanol and solar stocks have had a great run of late, it's still an industry explosion that hasn't caught on with John Q. Investor just yet.

In fact, the ordinary investor doesn't have a clue about the potential in these stocks.

You see, I recently attended the Power-Gen Renewable Energy and Fuels Conference in Las Vegas.

It's one of the largest, most influential future and clean energy conferences in America, where policymakers and leaders in the energy industries learn about the latest in renewable technologies.

It was there that I had an epiphany.

You see while attending some closed-door seminars with some of the most powerful CEOs in the industry, I made an important and profitable discovery - one that has already made some investors a lot of money!

I realized that this year and next, there's going to be a parade of renewable energy IPOs that will capture the attention of Wall Street.

It'll rival the IPO bull market of Internet stocks during the 1990s.

But in the meantime, smaller companies that are currently public are going to go gangbusters as investors try to jump on the bandwagon.

That's why I want to offer you all the juicy little details in my report, Instant Gains: The Tiny Engine that Could, completely free of charge when you sign up to my service GreenChip Stocks.

Let me explain...

Green Chip Stocks represent the most important stocks traded today, for one simple reason - these are the stocks that will be the catalyst for the first real profit trend of the 21st century.

A profit trend that is already worth more than $30 billion in its infancy!!!

Grabbing your share now is like getting a piece of the automobile market back in 1908. And I don't mean just Ford either. I'm talking about the market as a whole. Oil, rubber tires, road construction, etc.

But don't take my word for it. Check out what current subscribers have to say:

"Jeff,
In an era of being tougher and tougher to find undervalued conventional energy plays you are a breath of fresh air. Sitting on good profits from *CENSORED* (145%), Planet Organic (doubled original investment, sold, and bought back in at $1.99), and *CENSORED* (30%). I don't know where you find them, but please keep it up." -Ryan

"Dear Jeff,

Re: *CENSORED*. I bought this stock at 10\24\05 with a purchase price of $ 0.37. I am trading now for 21 years in stocks. I never had such a huge profit in 3 month in my portfolio. So, you will understand I am very happy, that I have a subscription of your letter, also with the other stocks.

I wish you all the best in 2006 in health and trading. I will be looking forward with trust for the next latest recommendations. Best regards." -Leo

"Hi Jeff,
Just thought I'd reply to your recent request, and let you know that I bought *CENSORED* on your recommendation at .80, so as of today (less than 2 weeks later!) I'm up 80%. Just wish I'd been a subscriber earlier! Looking forward to more recommendations from you." -S.F.

"Hello Jeff,
Was reading you letter this morning and thought I would drop you a line. Up 163% on *CENSORED*! Bought in at .57 a share. My deepest and darkest regret.....I didn't mortgage the house! Thanks for the work!" -M.P.

"Hi Jeff,
I will say that I was never much a believer in "penny stocks" but between Green Chip, Pure Energy & Secret Stocks, I am now a true believer. So far I am ahead $41,610 in Planet Organic plus $45,795 in *CENSORED* for a total of $97,405. Keep up the great work and keep the suggestions coming. Planet Organic bought @ $1.6728 us/share and *CENSORED* @ $0.5241 us/share. Thank You." -T. L., CA
Turning the Green Movement into Mountains of Greenbacks
Let me introduce myself. My name is Jeff Siegel.

I worked for one of the nation's largest financial publishers between 1994 to 2001, studying the financial markets from some of the top investment minds in the world.

For the past 4 years, I've been traveling the world investigating the state and the future of energy.

My travels took me to Rome to London to New York... and everywhere in between.

Now, when I worked with some of the top investment minds in the biz, they taught me that the time to invest in a stock or industry, is when nobody is talking about it. You sell it when everybody is talking about it.

Even though renewable energy is becoming a hot topic, there are still a mountain of skeptics who believe this is just a fad. President Bush, however, begs to differ.

And this report features my favorite energy stock, the company that bridges gasoline to renewables.

Trading for $1.95, this stock is already proving its worth... and could return well over 300% in the coming months and years.

Simply fill out your membership form, and I'll immediately send you a username and password that'll give you access to the report.

Plus, when you join Green Chip Stocks, you'll be entitled to receive my members-only daily letter, which updates you on current positions and alerts you to new stocks I'm recommending.

So, you get the report, Instant Gains: The Tiny Engine that Could, plus a full year of Green Chip Stocks.

Not a bad deal... for just $199 a year. That's right, you get a full year of Green Chip Stocks for only $199.

Think about that, each issue of Green Chip Stocks costs you less than a buck. For less than the cost of lunch at McDonalds, you get my exclusive analysis of the more than $30 billion a year "alternative" energy market. But remember, it's no longer alternative. It's mainstream.

If you're still unsure, you can "test-drive" the service and get my report on this stock for just $55, which is the quarterly fee for the service.

And you can cancel anytime for any reason if you're not satisfied with the service.

But please act fast.

As you can imagine, when this news reaches viewers of Fox News, CNBC, MSNBC and CNN, Wall Street investors and fat cats are going to have a field day with this company...then the fastest gains will already be made.

I urge you to get in on this company, while it's still $1.95, because the run to +$3 is about to begin.

Click here: https://server.publishers-mgmt.com/gcs2/?gcsppref=ded062906gcs_wd

Warm regards,

Jeff Siegel

P.S. - Become a member today, and I'll also throw in my special report, "Renewable Profits Left Unattended." This report highlights 5 of the most profitable and undervalued renewable energy stocks in the market today. From industrial solar applications to next-generation hybrid technology to a global geothermal company that's just landed one of the most lucrative renewable energy contracts in India - these are the companies Wall Street will be pumping up tomorrow. But you can read about them right now!

But the automotive industry - as well as the agricultural, construction, military, Homeland Security and even landscaping industries - may soon be revolutionized by this new rotary motor that has 2 to 3 times the power and weighs half as much as a typical ICE.

That’s right, after a full 19 years of testing, the 139 year old four-stroke internal combustion engine is about to become as useful as a horse and buggy in the Daytona 500.

All because this tiny engineering company did the impossible - it built and successfully tested a new engine that’s far more efficient, powerful, smaller, lighter and easier to maintain than any engine in use today.

Plus - it’s a consumer's paradise!

Compared to the conventional internal combustion engine, this baby runs nearly silent, has thousands (yes, literally thousands) of applications and - here’s the best part - it isn’t held hostage by foreign oil.

Anuvu Fuel Cell Develops Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle for a Neighborhood Electric Vehicle / Generator for REGI U.S., Inc. / Reg Technologies Inc.
Thursday September 15, 9:00 am ET

VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 15, 2005--REGI U.S., Inc. (OTCBB:RGUS - News; BCN:RGJ) / Reg Technologies Inc. (TSX VENTURE:RRE - News; OTCBB:REGRF - News) wish to announce that Anuvu Incorporated has scheduled production and delivery of a fuel cell-powered Neighborhood Electric Vehicle with On-Board Power generator to Reg Technologies Inc. for evaluation and testing. A recent market demand for highly-efficient NEVs has been seen as gasoline prices have risen dramatically and these small lightweight vehicles generate zero-pollution and have low operating costs. The addition of a fuel cell system makes these vehicles far more reliable and robust in operation, allowing the vehicles to be used continuously at multi-building facilities, golf courses/country clubs, retirement and self-sustaining communities, and other locales that have need for short-range passenger and/or light utility level mobility. The fuel cell/battery hybrid power system offers a rapid deployment solution that can be competitive economically and robust technically.

The design for the fuel cell power system for golf carts/NEVs would be a universal range extending power package that would be added to existing vehicle designs. The fuel cell would provide 2.5 kW of net power to the NEV, providing substantial range extension and enhanced performance over the entire duty cycle. This on-board fuel cell recharging system could triple the operating time of an existing NEV battery pack, making a two-hour pack last 6 hours. Providing a range increase from 25-50 miles per charge to more than 100-150 miles per charge. The fuel cell would be hydrogen fueled from a compressed tank which can be refueled in minutes instead of the lengthy 8-10 hour charge required by conventional battery NEVs. The fuel cell would run continuously while the vehicle is in operation, keeping the state of charge of the battery pack as high as possible during operation. This constant on-board recharging will provide extra power to the user and greatly extend battery life and reduce battery recharge cycle time.

Hydrogen would be stored onboard the vehicle to provide approximately 6 hours of full-power operation before refueling. In moderate quantities, this system could be cost effective because of the dramatically lower daily fuel and maintenance costs compared to battery recharging. In higher volumes of thousands of units the fuel cell power system can be cost competitive in terms of initial capital costs and therefore have a drastically lower cost of ownership over the life of the system.

In addition to increasing range and driving performance of the vehicle the fuel cell system will also mobile power generation with on-board AC outlets that tools, appliances or electronics can be plugged into for up to 24 hours of continuous operation. This makes NEV fleets a perfect tool to aid in the on-the-ground coordination and response efforts of first-responders to emergencies whether they be power outages, natural disasters or security concerns.

Reg Technologies Inc. owns the exclusive distribution rights for Canada and REGI U.S., Inc. has the option for the rights for Europe.

The Week in Sustainable Vehicles (07/10/05)
Sustainability Sundays

Every Sunday, Green Car Congress' Mike Millikin gives us an update on the week's sustainable mobility news, looking at the ongoing evolution of personal transportation. Take it away, Mike:

The G8 meeting this week ended with a Plan of Action on Climate Change, Clean Energy and Sustainable Development that reviews, promotes, invites, encourages, labels, educates, explores, asks, discusses, raises, supports, partners, capitalizes, endorses, collaborates, welcomes, draws together, identifies, launches, recognizes, expresses, seeks, dialogues, continues, reaffirms, monitors, moves forward, strengthens and agrees--but that sets no actual quantitative, measurable goals for reductions in emissions, mix of renewables or the like and provides no additional funding.

To pluck a quote from Sen. John McCain during the debate on the energy bill in the US Senate:

"You've got to have an immediate effort [i.e., a cap] to reduce greenhouse gas emissions," McCain said, adding that any climate change plan that doesn't do that is "a fig leaf" and "a joke." (Reuters)

In the US, GM decided to extend the universal employee discount program for another month. Ford and Chrysler quickly announced their own versions of the employee-discount-for-everyone program. Based on the program in June, GM's monthly sales climbed to the highest in almost 20 years, with record gains in SUVs and light trucks--a sector that had been down 25% on the year--as well as with its cars. (GCC)

The European Commission meanwhile has proposed that member states restructure their car tax schemes away from registration levies to link taxation directly to CO2 emissions from passenger cars.

The Commission proposes that charges based on emissions account for 25% of tax charges by the end of 2008, and for half of such tax revenues by 2010. The directive does not attempt to harmonize tax rates or obligate member states to introduce new taxes. (GCC)

Hybrids

Honda kicked off the week by revealing some of the specifications for its new Honda Hybrid System, which will be introduced in the new Civic Hybrid being launched this fall. The new system delivers 20% more power with an estimated 5% better fuel economy than the current Civic Hybrid.

The new system features a new 3-stage i-VTEC engine that employs Honda's intelligent VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) system to provide three stages of valve timing (low-rpm, high-rpm, and cylinder idle mode), combined with a more compact and efficient IMA (Integrated Motor Assist) system. (GCC)

Toyota Motor indicated that it will double its production of hybrid vehicles to 500,000 units in 2006 from the 2005 level to meet rising global demand, especially in North America.

Separately, the company confirmed that it will bring 12 new hybrids to market, many configured on current production vehicles, over the next 24 months. (GCC)

Maple, the Shanghai-based unit of China's Geely Automobile, is working with Tongji University in Shanghai to develop hybrid cars.

The partnership has set out an aggressive development plan that, if realized, would see the hybrids in commercial production in 2008, in time for the Olympics. (GCC)

Malaysia's national carmaker Proton also said that it is developing its own hybrid-electric car and hopes to roll it out in less than five years. (GCC)

Cobasys and Panasonic EV Energy (PEVE), a joint venture between Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. and Toyota, expanded the license terms between them for NiMH battery systems for hybrid and electric vehicles. (GCC)

Biofuels

Ford introduced its new generation Focus Flexi-Fuel, plus, for the first time, a Flexi-Fuel version of the Ford Focus C-MAX in Sweden this week. The flex fuel vehicles (running on E85, gasoline, or any mixture of the two) will appear in other countries in Europe as well.

Working closely with the Swedish Flexi-Fuel Buyers' Consortium, a conglomeration of public organizations, commercial enterprises and private individuals, Ford was the first manufacturer to offer ethanol-powered vehicles in a European market. Ford has sold more than 15,000 Focus Flexi-Fuels in Sweden since the model's introduction in 2001. In 2003 and 2004, more than 80% of alternative fuel cars sold in Sweden were Focus Flexi-Fuels. (GCC)

A new Cornell University and University of California-Berkeley study from long-standing critics of biofuels slammed both ethanol and biodiesel.

"There is just no energy benefit to using plant biomass for liquid fuel," says David Pimentel, professor of ecology and agriculture at Cornell. "These strategies are not sustainable." (GCC)

That conclusion was countered by the Ag Energy Working Group during a conference call update on its progress to achieving its 25 by 25 vision: 25% of US energy needs delivered from the land base managed by agriculture by 2025. (That 25% includes wind and solar electricity as well as biofuel.) (GCC)

In response to a question about the new Cornell-UC Berkeley study, James Woolsey, former director of the CIA and member of the National Commission on Energy Policy, said:

The National Commission on Energy Policy completely disagrees with them... You need only about one barrel of oil equivalent to produce seven barrels of cellulosic ethanol. They are running foursquare against the considered judgement of the National Commission on Energy Policy. I don't know where they got their numbers.

The Ag Energy Working Group maintains that all feedstocks will be needed to meet the 25 by 25 goal.

For many years, one of the biggest barriers to moving toward cellulosic ethanol so one can use about 80% of what grows instead of just starch...one of the biggest barriers was people who wanted ethanol just to be made from corn. Today one of the biggest barriers to moving toward 25 by 25 is people who want to limit biodiesel just to material like soy and rapeseed and restaurant grease. Europe makes 300 million barrels a year of biodiesel and we make 25. One of the reasons is that we limit the types of [feedstocks]...

As long as we try to limit ethanol to corn and not cellulose, and try to limit biodiesel to things like soy rather than being all inclusive the way Europe is, we are going to end up having 25 by 25--but it will European 25 by 25.

The European Commission is taking further action against member states failing to comply with the biofuels Directive requiring 2% of all diesel and gasoline sold be biofuels in 2005, progressively increasing to reach a minimum of 5.75% of fuels sold in 2010. (2003/30/EC). (GCC)

The Government of Canada allocated a further C$46 million (US$ 37 million) for the construction or expansion of five ethanol plants across Canada. The funding comes as the second round of the Ethanol Expansion Program, which allocated C$72 million to six projects in its first round.

The new projects represent some 512 million liters per year of production capacity, and will increase total Canadian capacity to 1.4 billion liters (369.8 million gallons US) per year--seven times what it was prior to the beginning of the program and enough to meet the climate change target for ethanol production two years ahead of schedule. (GCC)

The UK government is exploring the potential viability of a different pathway to a diesel-biofuel blend by issuing a tender to encourage refineries or other companies to investigate the use of hydrogenation.

Hydrogenation is a process in which biomass is mixed with conventional diesel through heating in the refinery process in such a way as to create a product chemically very similar to petroleum diesel, but somewhat more environmentally friendly.

The UK government is wondering whether or not hydrogenation, owing to economies of scale and integration with the existing petroleum refining infrastructure, might provide a cheaper way of introducing biofuel into the market. The stated intention is not to replace the conventional method of biodiesel manufacture in the UK but to augment it and work alongside it. (GCC)

The Des Moines, Iowa, Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) became the latest organization to adopt O2Diesel's ethanol-diesel blend (e-diesel) in its transit fleet of 140 diesel-powered coaches and para-transit vehicles.

The Des Moines MTA represents the largest fleet conversion under the e-diesel program to date. (GCC)

Hydrogen

During their work on the budget, California state lawmakers on Thursday approved just slightly more than 60% of the funds Gov. Schwarzenegger had recommended to begin building his Hydrogen Highway.

The administration had recommended spending $10.7 million a year over the next five years; AB 141 specifies spending an initial $6.5 million on the project. (GCC)

In an interesting partnership, Reg Technologies, owner of the worldwide rights to the Rand Cam rotary engine (GCC), is entering into a financial and sales partnership with Anuvu, a maker of automotive fuel cells. (GCC) Anuvu also has a partnership agreement with ZAP, the importers and modifiers of the Americanized Smart car.

As part of the deal, Reg Technologies, and its US distributor REGI US, are acquiring exclusive distribution rights for Canada and Europe for Anuvu fuel cells.

The companies have a common objective of developing a clean burning new source of power for vehicles, which are currently using gasoline driven piston engines. REGI is in the final phase of developing a light weight rotary engine that will run on any fuel, including cleaner burning fuels, such as hydrogen, propane and natural gas.

AeroVironment (AV), a developer of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and electric vehicle systems, has successfully completed the world's first liquid-hydrogen-powered UAV flight tests.

The fifty-foot wingspan prototype aircraft operated entirely on liquid hydrogen fuel for more than one hour on each of two test flights flight and was flown under both manual control and autonomous waypoint navigation. (GCC)

Diesel

GM's Opel has announced that it is offering a particle filter (DPF) on all diesel-powered cars it sells in Germany. The move follows the German government's decision to offer tax subsidies to owners of vehicles equipped with such filters, effective from 1 January 2005. (GCC)

The Renault-Nissan alliance is introducing a new 2.0-liter dCi diesel engine, to be first applied in a 150-hp version in the Laguna this summer. With this engine, the Laguna is projected to deliver some 40.6 mpg US(combined Euro cycle). (GCC)

Natural Gas

The French government and carmakers, fueling stations operators and energy companies have signed a five-year protocol designed to increase the use of natural gas vehicles in the country.

According to François Loos, the French industry minister, the government will introduce tax incentives to buyers of new natural gas-powered cars, and will offer a tax break on natural gas at the pump to encourage its use. (GCC)

The fleets of the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System and North County Transit District (NCTD) in the San Diego area of California have received 103 more CNG buses, powered by Cummins Westport (CWI) 8.3-liter C Gas Plus natural gas engines. (GCC)

Cummins Westport has also received an order for 30 CWI natural gas engines for new transit buses in Bangladesh. Delivery of the initial 30 buses, manufactured by Chongqing Yutong Coach Manufacturing Co. Ltd. of China, begins this month, with options for a total of 120 buses by the end of November.

The order marks Cummins Westport's entry into the Bangladesh transit bus market. (GCC)

Re: A new Cornell University and University of California-Berkeley study from long-standing critics of biofuels slammed both ethanol and biodiesel.

These studies come up with 1000 gallons of input fuel per acre of corn. Any farmer will tell you that it does not take 1000 gallons of fuel (of any type) to farm an acre. Something is seriously wrong with this study.

Ignoring fuel consumed off the field invalidates your analysis. Even ethanol's producers will tell you that it takes a large fraction of a gallon's worth of ethanol (or equivalent in natural gas or LPG) just to distill it from the mash. Then you have the production of the ammonia used for the fertilizer, the chemicals, and the transport chain.

Posted by: Engineer-Poet at July 10, 2005 06:16 PM

How about using magnetic force to power the car like a Hovercar ? Very clean, powerful and no need to refuel for life.
Posted by: Kuokings at July 11, 2005 02:04 AM

I think the real question to ask, regardless of if the study is correct or not, is how do you take down the cost of farming along with the fuel consumption. maybe we need a study on how to harvest the corn using hybrids or powering portions of the process with solar or wind. That multi-level farm that was posted here could be ideal, several different lawyers of corn all in the same complex. Which reminds me about that post on the multi-level farm, is it possible to chill the higher levels? I was under the impression if you chilled the roots of some plants their harvestable several times a year. Wired had an article on a guy using sea water to chill grape vines for wine.

Solar grain dryers and farm equipment driven by zinc-air fuel cells could manage two loads currently handled mostly by petroleum. Farms have plenty of space, so either solar PV panels or wind turbines have the potential to supply the power for equipment.

There have have been numerous newswires from the Indian press about the use of jatropha trees to make biodiesel. Wouldn't there be some critics of this strategy if it were not doable?

And if jatropha-derived or jojoba biodiesel (as reported bt Newscientist.com sveral years ago) could be produced economically, why weren't we doing this thirty years ago?

Norton F1

The Norton Manufacturing Company was created in 1898 by James Landsdowne Norton. Motorcycles were built as early as 1907 and winning races. By 1913 it had become Norton Motors Ltd and was making motorcycles in Birmingham, England.

Norton's involvement with rotary combustion engines began with the amalgamation of Norton-Villiers and BSA-Triumph to form Norton-Villiers-Triumph (NVT) in 1973. The Birmingham Small Arms Co., Ltd., (BSA) had obtained an NSU license in July 1972 a Wankel project codenamed P41. They had built a Fichtel & Sachs motor into a Victor frame for testing.

In 1973, two or three prototypes were built based on the Triumph oil in frame type frame and using Triumph T140/150 parts, left hand primary drive.

In 1974 through 1976 financial troubles almost scuttled NVT. The P41 project was then located at the Shenstone, Lichfield, Staffordshire facilities. Around 1977 work was moved to Birmingham to an experimental laboratory.
Norton Interpol II Motorcycle

Norton Motors (1978) Ltd was formed in 1978 as a motorcycle division. A number of RCE prototypes had been shown to the press and received favourably. 25 Mark I prototypes were built in 1979. In 1981 a Mark II appeared, which eventually went into production as the Interpol II. 130 machines were purchased by police forces in 1983. Additional units were bought by the British armed forces and the Royal Automobile Club. The reservoir for the total loss oil system is contained in the box spine frame, which is welded. Last unit was produced in 1988.

Norton F1 Sports Motorcycle P55B

The F1 Sports was introduced in the middle of 1992 at a slightly better price, afforded by less exotic parts, including improved carburetor that reputedly is less prone to overheating and smoother running. Performance Bikes a magazine from Peterborough, England reviewed it in September 1992.
Norton F1 Racing Motorcycle

This bike was an F1 but with SU carbs and seats/tank off as works race bikes. They were designated TT in Germany.

Trevor Nation had great success racing Norton rotaries beginning in 1988. In 1990 he won the MCN TT Superbike championship.

Steve Spray first raced a Norton rotary in Oct. 1988. He won the Formula One race at Brands Hatch on a Saturday and the Powerbike International on the Sunday. This was after riding it for the very first time on the Friday. He also won the 1988 ACU 1300cc championship.

The P56 F1R was to be produced for race privateers. Initially 12 were to be produced, but only one non-functional prototype was produced. Specs included racing callipers and discs, six gears, and magnesium alloy wheels. Price complete only £27,000.

There was to be an F2 to follow on, but it never became a functional motorcycle. Two non-functional bikes were made in dark green metallic finish.
British Motorcycle Land Speed Record

The record had been set in 1978 at 191 mph by Roy Daniels riding a Triumph with two engines and supercharging.

In the autumn of 1990 an F1 race engine was installed in Alex Macfadzean's Penetrator streamlined motorcycle. Mike Booys rode it to 191.89 mph for a new 750cc record. Unofficial runs were at 200 mph.
Norton Aircraft and Target Drone Engines

NR642: 90 bhp from 60 kg total weight with integrated reduction gearbox. Twin rotor by 294 cc gives 588 cc. At cruise, Specific fuel consumption (SFC) of 0.51 lb / bhp per hour. Uses leaded or unleaded, Avgas or Mogas fuels. In field trials, 1989, when it was chosen by the joint McDonnell Douglas / Development Sciences Corporation team as the best engine for short range Remote Piloted Vehicles (RPV). This engine was approved by the CAA for civilian passenger aircraft in December 1990. During testing, the engine is run for 150 hours at 8000 rpm, disassembled, reassembled and run again for 150 hours. This is like driving at a constant speed of 120 miles per hour for 35,000 miles with only one stop.

In 1990 Norton contracted Rogers Aviation in Cranfield, England, to install a Cessna 152 with an NR642 for testing. One was powering a Seabird Sentinel pusher prop light aircraft in 1989. Two were in an Ivan Shaw TwinEze, cruising speed 175 knots, two pusher props of 53 in diameter. Ivan Shaw was GM of Aviation Composites Ltd, a former branch of the Lotus car company.

NR622: similar to NR642, but has a lower prop line and a lighter gearbox. 82 bhp. The latest model is the P62 which increases its output to 90 bhp by using an exhaust ejector system of rotor cooling.

NR731: 38 bhp from 10 kg (23 lb) constant speed engine. Low Specific fuel consumption: 0.52 lb/bhp per hour at cruise. Air cooled. In production, 1989. Formerly P73. Was fitted into Banshee 300 RPV military target drone.

NR801: Ultra light and compact liquid cooled RPV engine. 294cc by one rotor. 40 bhp at 6000 rpm or 50 bhp at 75000 rpm, 23 kg including integrated 1.5 kw alternator. Was in pre-production in 1989.
Norton Hovercraft

Bill Yates put a P60 engine for thrust and an NR731 for list into a homebuilt one man hovercraft. The vehicle finished second in the British National Formula One championship, winning two more races than the champion.
Norton's Demise as a Rotary Manufacturer

In 1987 a group of investors headed by Philippe Le Roux took over, forming Norton Group PLC, mainly for the value of its properties. When these turned out to be less than anticipated it was realized that the Norton name was irrevocably tied to motorcycles. Thus RCE motorcycle production was funded.

In October 1989 Brian Crighton left Norton to form the Roton Company which planned to produce motorcycles in Australia. They won 6th and 7th in their first race in March 1991 at Caldwell Park. Grant Hodson rode the Roton to win the Australian F1 Championship two part race at Oron Park that year. Steve Spray was also riding.

In 1990 Le Roux said "The Norton F1 is the Porsche of the motorcycle world. It is a superb example of British innovation and technology and will take the Norton name into the 1990s as one of the most prestigious names in motorcycling." Combining this with the engine business and the Commando spare parts business, prospects appeared to be looking up. Then Le Roux departed as chief executive officer in 1991.

A Department of Trade and Industry investigation was launched in 1991 to look into the activities of all the members of the Norton group, including Pro-fit (American pipe), Minty (furniture), and FUS (German fastenings). The outcome is not known to this writer. A motorcycle magazine claimed that Norton was looted financially in the early 90s. Later, in 1993 the Norton name and motorcycle assets were acquired by a Canadian led investment group. In 1998 they merge with a March Motors who have developed some new motorcycles. In April 1999, all the Norton assets were re-united under the name Norton motorcycles. As far as this writer knows, this does not include any rotary engine technology, which is now owned by Mid-West Engines for manned applications and UAV Engines for unmanned applications.

The story continues on the Mid-West background page.

Hybrids and Plug-ins: New Opportunities for Rotaries?
May 13, 2005

http://www.greencarcongress.com/2005/05/hybrids_and_plu.html

Designs for rotary engines go back as far as Agostino Ramelli's 1588 proposal for a rotary piston water pump. By 1910, the British Patent office held more than 2,000 patents for rotary-type pumps and engines--all presumably unsuccessful.

It was Felix Wankel who finally came up with a functional design for a rotary combustion engine (RCE) and determinedly took it to market in the 1950s. The result became known at the Wankel, and enjoyed a flurry of applications for several decades.

The Wankel replaces the piston and cylinder of a conventional engine with a three-cornered rotor turning in a roughly oval chamber. As the rotor turns, it performs the stages of the four-stroke cycle: air intake, compression, combustion and exhaust. As a consequence, a Wankel has fewer parts, runs more smoothly, and is lighter and more powerful for its size than a piston engine.

The Wankel [engine] will...dwarf such major post-war technological developments as xerography, the Polaroid camera and color television.

--General Motors, 1969

The Wankel had two major drawbacks: relatively high emissions and poor fuel economy. The combination of the oil crises of the 1970s and the focus on cleaning the air through emissions control caused most automakers (with the exception of Mazda) to cancel their Wankel plans. GM, which had been so enthusiastic, stopped Wankel development in 1977.

It was a Wankel engine, however, that was used in the first modern US prototype of a gasoline-electric hybrid: a 19723 Buick Skylark using a powertrain built by Victor Wouk and Charlie Rosen (who started Petro-Electric Motors around the concept).

The reason I wanted a Wankel engine is that it was squat for the same amount of horsepower as a conventional piston engine. And as I mentioned, I didn't know how much electronics I would have to put under the hood or how big an electric motor, so I wanted something that was squat, and Mazda's Wankel engine fitted this requirement absolutely beautifully.

As I always said, the hybrid is the way to go if--if, if, if. If we must reduce automobile pollution and reduce automobile fuel consumption a large amount in a short period of time, the only thing you should do is use existing technologies, base your design on existing technologies, and as these technologies improve, even when you're implementing the design and improving your design, you just go ahead. The principle was proved by our tests at the EPA. But nobody did anything about it until, independently, the Japanese--Toyota and Honda--did it.

--Victor Wouk

Mazda continued to work with the Wankel, reducing its fuel consumption and emissions. The company is introducing a hydrogen-fueled version to be followed by a hydrogen-fueled rotary-electric hybrid. (Earlier post.)

But other companies and inventors continue to tackle the problem of designing an efficient rotary combustion engine without the fuel consumption and emissions issues of the Wankel. As an example, the vertices of the three-cornered Wankel rotor are difficult to seal. Some newer designs try to do away with the corners altogether.

Some of these engines are already in use in non-automotive applications. Not surprisingly, many are now looking toward gaseous fuels, and new combustion regimes (such as HCCI) as entry back into the auto limelight.

One such is the Rand Cam engine now being developed by Reg Technologies.

Invented by James McCann in 1983, the Rand Cam uses a disk-shaped rotor with two or more axial vanes mounted perpendicular to the direction of rotation. The vanes slide back and forth against cam surfaces to alternatively expand and contract the chamber volume.

Through the process of these sliding vanes, combustion chambers form between the rotor, stator walls and vanes where the fuel/air mixture is injected, compressed, combusted and exhausted.

Increasing the number of vanes increases the number of combustion events throughout a revolution. The original Rand Cam had two; the current version has 12.

The engine operates at lower speeds than a typical Wankel engine (less than 2,000 rpm) and at higher compression ratios.

The company recently announced that it has completed several successful, continuous combustion tests using gasoline fuel and a unique vane design that does not require vane tip seals. (Sealing remains an issue, as with the Wankel.)

The company notes that eliminating the need for vane tip seals will reduce the manufacturing and maintenance costs significantly. The Rand Cam engine design will be further tested for generator and hybrid car applications.

Reg Tech is currently testing a Rand Cam diesel engine as the genset engine for a series hybrid electric car.

On the other end of the ambition scale, a different approach is taken by Quasiturbine, first patented in 1996. The Quasiturbine proposes the use of a deformable four-face rotor without a crankshaft instead of the three-faced Wankel rotor (with crankshaft) that is designed for an optimal variant of HCCI.

Indeed, the Quasiturbine inventors see this family of designs (as there is more than one possibility) as the next major evolution of combustion engines. "Inspired by the turbine, it perfects the piston, and improves on the Wankel."

In one offshoot of the theory of the St. Hilaire family designers, Quasiturbine engines could even eliminate the need for energy storage in hybrids, as the Quasiturbines would theoretically be so efficient at low speed.

There are some prototypes of the Quasiturbine engines being developed, but nothing yet in transportation.

Inventing, designing, prototyping and succeeding in manufacturing a new type of engine can take a great deal of time. Wankel conceived of his idea in 1924, received his first patent in 1929, received his patent for what would become the prototype in 1936, was interrupted by World War II, created a company, and finally had a running prototype of what became the Wankel engine in 1958. Roadtested in 1960, the engine was used in the Wankel Spider in 1964. Forty years from concept to car.

That said, we have an emerging need in the marketplace for engines optimized for hybrid applications--especially the potential for plug-in hybrid applications.

Considering the uncertainties of long-range prediction and judging solely by lowest life-cycle energy use and greenhouse gas (GHG) releases, there is no current bias for preferring either fuel cell (FC) or internal combustion engine (ICE) hybrid powerplants for mid-size automobiles over the next 20 years or so using fuels derived from petroleum or natural gas. That conclusion applies even with optimistic assumptions about the pace of future fuel cell development. Hybrid vehicles are superior to their non-hybrid counterparts and their advantages are greater for ICE than for FC designs.

...if it is important to make signgificant reduction in fleet energy use and GHG emissions during the next 20 years, then improved ICE vehicles offer the quickest and easiest techmology options to realizing those objectives.

Comparative Assessment of Fuel Cell Cars, MIT

Rotary Combustion Engines, with their higher power for a given engine density, are an interesting prospect for hybrid applications. If fuel consumption and emissions issues are satisfactorily resolved through design innovation or engineering breakthroughs, they may be able to play a renewed role.

A small quibble - the Wankel-powered Buick Skylark was a 1972 model. Buick dropped the Skylark name for the 1973 model year and didn't resurrect it until 1980, I believe.

Rand Cam Engine Prepares to Power World into 21st Century; Streamlined Engine Delivers Power with more Efficiency, Less Weight and Noise

Money Show 2005
Booth 111

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 9, 2005--Money Show, 2005/Booth 111--The Rand Cam(TM) rotary engine is reported to be lighter, more efficient, and quieter than a traditional engine, the Rand Cam(TM) rotary engine produces three times more power per pound of weight than the piston engines that dominate today's market.

Positioning itself to provide engineering solutions to modern day industries and consumers, REGI US (OTCBB:RGUS) and Reg Technologies Inc. (OTCBB:REGRF) has recently announced the successful testing of their patented Rand Cam(TM) rotary engine. The streamlined, four-stroke engine creates continuous injection and combustion in a single chamber, powered by just two types of moving parts (the vanes and the rotor). Because of the simplicity of the engine's design, the Rand Cam(TM) is able to generate 24 cylinder firings per rotation and provide continuous power that is vibration-free and extremely quiet.

Traditional combustion engines require separate chambers for intake, compression, combustion, and exhaust, and even a simple four-cylinder piston engine is comprised of 40 different moving parts. The complexities of these engines make maintenance time-consuming, and their wearable surfaces often require replacement after a relatively short period of time. But the Rand Cam(TM) operates with a simplified design and minimal moving parts, reducing the need for maintenance and improving the engine's overall efficiency.

Military and Commercial Applications

The Rand Cam(TM) engine is currently undergoing production model development for possible use in military spy planes, largely because of its compact, efficient, and ultra-quiet design (at 1,500 feet the Rand Cam(TM) engine emitted only 60 dB). Alexandria, VA- based Radian Milparts, Inc. has already built a 42 H.P. diesel Rand Cam(TM) engine for use in unmanned military vehicles, and the engine is currently undergoing tests by REGI- Rotary Engine Specialists in Richmond, British Columbia.

In addition to the interest among members of the US defense community, the Rand Cam(TM) engine offers many possible commercial applications as well. REGI US has already built an air conditioning compressor for use in commercial transportation vehicles, sparking interest from the Trans Air Manufacturing Corporation, a PA-based company that provides climate control systems for buses. The company is currently testing the Rand Cam(TM) for baseline speed, performance, and air consumption prior to installing a working prototype as a compressor for a bus air conditioning system. In addition, Rand Cam(TM) motors can be used in the nautical community, powering yachts and other boats in place of traditional combustion engines.

The Rand Cam(TM) engine can also be used as a generator, running on propane or natural gas and providing a backup power source for residential markets where power outages are frequent, or carry health or safety concerns. Generators powered by Rand Cam(TM) engines run on propane or natural gas and produce enough power for the average family home, all the while maintaining their compact portability (a Rand Cam(TM)- fueled generator is approximately the size of a microwave oven) and quiet efficiency.

One of the most anticipated uses for the new technology is among the blossoming hydrogen-powered automobile industry. The development of the Rand Cam(TM) engine has sparked considerable interest among environmentalists and eco-friendly manufacturers because of its ability to operate using a clean-burning hydrogen fuel cell. "Hybrid electric vehicles and engines that run using cleaner-burning fuels such as hydrogen, propane and natural gas are the future of the automotive industry," said John Robertson, CEO of Reg Technologies and its US subsidiary, REGI US. "Our society has recognized the benefits of exploring hydrogen-based technologies, and we are happy to be contributing towards the development of more sophisticated engines that operate using hydrogen and other clean burning fuels."

About REGI US

REGI U.S., INC., which has the U.S. rights, is partially owned by Reg Technologies, Inc., which owns the balance of the worldwide rights to the Rand Cam(TM) rotary technology.

I personally don't understand the difference in concepts between what we have now in the industry and what they say about whats new here. Ask some expert on engines and let me know.

Seems to be similiar to the Masda engines. Check out their websites. Way too much hype though.

Anybody out there that can tell us more?

Please post some links!

That was a nice rise in the PPS today and also
increased volume. Will this trend continue will
be the question. With this exposure, there should be
considerable interest in the engine from many companies
around the world.
