Electricite de France (EDF.FR) said that it has signed an
agreement with India's state-backed Nuclear Power Corporation of
India Limited, or NPCIL, to help construct and supply technology
for six nuclear reactors.
The French state-controlled power utility said Saturday that
under the agreement it will supply technology for the reactors in
Jaitapur, and undertake engineering studies and component
procurement for the first two reactors.
EDF and its industrial partners will also assist NPCIL during
the reactors' construction, the company said.
"The industrial agreement just signed with NPCIL marks a
decisive step in the development of the Jaitapur nuclear project,
meaning we can now envisage with confidence the rest of this
essential project for India and for EDF," said Jean-Bernard Levy,
EDF's chairman and chief executive.
