Carrefour SA (CA.FR) said Wednesday that trade unions have agreed to the French retailer's voluntary redundancy scheme and job protection plan offered to 4,500 employees as part of the company's transformation plan.

The voluntary redundancy scheme affects 2,400 staff at the company's head offices in France, said Carrefour. The job protection plan, which also affects 2,100 employees at ex-Dia stores, will offer employees three appropriate job opportunities, at least two of which will be within the Carrefour group, it said.

In January Carrefour said it planned to offer 2,400 employees voluntary redundancies and to divest 273 ex-Dia stores as part of a sweeping reorganization aimed at shoring up its faltering performance.

The agreements will be subject to validation by the labor administration so they can be implemented starting July 1, said Carrefour.
