Daimler AG (DAI.XE) and Deutsche Telekom AG (DTE.XE) reached an
agreement with the German Federal Government, ending a 14-year
dispute over the implementation of their jointly run Toll Collect
toll-management system for trucks, Daimler said late Wednesday.
The total settlement amounts to 3.2 billion euros ($3.78
billion), including all compensation and penalties paid since 2006,
and a final payment of EUR1.1 billion that Daimler and Deutsche
Telekom will divide equally.
Daimler said the settlement could knock around EUR600 million
off its earnings before interest and taxes in the current
quarter.
Deutsche Telekom didn't specify the financial impact of the
settlement.
Daimler and Deutsche Telekom both currently hold 45% of Toll
Collect, which manages Germany's road-toll system. Vinci SA's
(DG.FR) Cofiroute subsidiary holds the remaining 10%.
