Long-Standing Case Brought By the Washington
Attorney General Is Resolved With No Admission Of Liability And For
Fraction Of Claimed Damages
Toshiba Corporation is pleased to announce the favorable
resolution of legal proceedings in the State of Washington
regarding the Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) industry. After years of
litigation, on May 29, 2018, the King County Superior Court
approved a settlement and consent decree between the State of
Washington and Toshiba. In doing so, the Court explicitly
acknowledged that the parties resolved the case with no admission
of liability, stating “neither the existence of this Consent Decree
nor anything contained therein shall be deemed or construed to be
an admission by [Toshiba] or evidence of any liability, wrongdoing
or violation of law by [Toshiba], or the truth of any of the claims
or allegations contained in the complaint.” Under the settlement
and consent decree, Toshiba was able to resolve the claims against
it with a modest payment constituting a small fraction of the
claimed damages. The consent decree is publicly available on the
Court’s docket and is available at:
