Engie SA (ENGI.FR) said Wednesday that it has acquired French company Vol-V Biomasse.

The deal with Vol-V Biomasse, based in the northwest of France, will strengthen Engie's position in the region as an important producer of biomethane, a gas produced from organic materials, the French energy group said.

Financial details were not disclosed.

Engie has committed to invest 800 million euros ($910.1 million) in the development of biomethane projects with farmers over the next five years, it said.
