Two of France's richest entrepreneurs have pledged a combined total of 300 million euros ($339.2 million) to help rebuild Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris after a fire ravaged the Gothic landmark on Monday.

Bernard Arnault, chairman and chief executive of LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SE (MC.FR), said that his family and the luxury-goods company, which it controls, will donate EUR200 million to the fund dedicated to the reconstruction of Notre Dame.

Fellow billionaire and Kering (KER.FR) chairman and chief executive Francois-Henri Pinault said his family, which controls LVMH's rival, will donate EUR100 million to the effort.

Following French President Emmanuel Macron's promise to rebuild the monument, France's Capgemini SE (CAP.FR) on Tuesday also said that it would give EUR1 million for the reconstruction.

French construction company Vinci SA (DG.FR) said that all French building companies should join forces to rebuild the church under a skills sponsorship drive.

"The partial destruction of Notre Dame is an unqualified tragedy," Vinci said. "The 13th century wooden beams holding up the roof will never be replaced. But the part of Notre Dame that has survived the fire must be safeguarded."
