Airbus SE (AIR.FR) Chief Executive Guillaume Faury said Thursday that rival Boeing Co.'s (BA) problems with the 737 MAX aren't denting demand for planes, but expressed concern that passenger trust could be affected.

"We don't see anything positive from the current situation," Mr. Faury told reporters.

Demand for the company's planes was strong before the Boeing suffered two losses of its MAX plane within five months and remains strong today, Mr. Faury told reporters.

Airbus doesn't see any near-term gain from Boeing's woes, he said.

The European aerospace giant is sold out for its planes through 2023, limiting its ability to provide any to MAX customers that may want to buy other planes.

Since the MAX fleet was grounded in March, several airlines have launched competitions for single-aisle planes. Mr. Faury said it was premature to judge whether the MAX situation would have an impact on the outcome.
