Facebook Inc.'s (FB) artificial-intelligence division has launched an open-source platform called ReAgent that helps users build artificial-intelligence-based models that can make decisions on its own.

The company plans to use ReAgent to improve personalization within Facebook's services. It hopes to move away from writing manual rules to more feedback-based predictions that would surface relevant content before any given person.

Facebook said the tool can also be used across many industries, and can be used with such services as Microsoft Corp.'s cloud-platform (MSFT) Azure.

ReAgent will have a small C++ library that can be used and embedded in any application.

Overall, ReAgent is a suite of tools that creates models that can make decisions as well as obtain feedback from those decisions, the company said. Additionally, Facebook said, the tools offer ways to evaluate how new models perform before they're deployed and helps users scale their platform.

Facebook said ReAgent builds off of its first open-source, artificial-intelligence platform called Horizon, which optimizes systems in large-scale production environments. Horizon will become a part of ReAgent, the company said.
