The Company announces that it has purchased the following number of its ordinary shares of 1 pence each in the capital of the Company (the "Shares"):

   Lowest price paid per Share:              75.80 pence 
   Average price paid per Share:            75.98 pence 

The Company intends to hold these Shares in Treasury. Including Shares which have been purchased but not yet settled, the Company holds 67,605,438 Shares in Treasury.

Following the above purchase, the total number of Shares in issue is 315,010,227 (excluding Shares held in Treasury).
