The board of Engie SA (ENGIE.FR) on Wednesday said it wouldn't reappoint Chief Executive Isabelle Kocher at its next shareholder meeting, bringing an "end of her chief executive officer position."
Ms. Kocher had served as CEO since 2016, the company said, adding her mandate as CEO is due to expire in May.
The company said Chairman Jean-Pierre Clamadieu will work with the board's Appointments, Compensation and Governance Committee to find a successor to Ms. Kocher.
During the transition, Engie said, operational management of the group should be taken forward collectively by Paulo Almirante, chief operating officer, Judith Hartmann, chief financial officer, and Claire Waysand, general secretary and who will be appointed interim CEO.
"The board decided that the group needs to take another step forward in its transformation and to deepen the strategy launched to make Engie a leader in the energy and climate transition," Engie said.
The company also said it "must also address two critical challenges in Belgium and France, namely how nuclear energy fits into the Belgian energy mix and natural gas in the French one."
Engie SA is a French energy company.
Attempts to contact Ms. Kocher weren't immediately successful.
