Electricite de France SA said Thursday that it has acquired electric-vehicle charging company Pod Point in the U.K.

The French utility company didn't disclose the value of the deal but said it carried out the acquisition in a joint venture with Legal & General Capital, which will own a stake of roughly 23% in Pod Point.

EDF said the acquisition is its "largest investment in the EV market and forms part of its plan to become the leading energy company for electric mobility in France, the U.K., Italy and Belgium."

Pod Point operates 62,000 charging points in the U.K. and an additional 6,600 in Norway.
