NATO Chooses Radian to Perform Response Force Studies ST. LOUIS,
July 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Engineered Support Systems, Inc.
(NASDAQ:EASI) wholly-owned subsidiary Radian, Inc. was chosen by
the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Supreme Allied
Command- Transformation to study new concepts and existing
technologies for the design, construction, and maintenance of NATO
base camps. The study, valued at $170,000 is expected to last six
months. The base camps would be used by a deployed joint task force
and headquarters of the NATO Response Force. The base camp study is
Radian's second NATO study award in as many months. The first, a
water generation and distribution study, currently remains
underway. Both projects will provide market surveys of existing and
emerging technologies; recommend a system that best suits NATO's
needs; and include an equipment demonstration in an exercise,
according to Engineered Support's Vice Chairman and CEO Gerald A.
Potthoff. "These studies provide NATO a key opportunity to have its
transformation planning process be informed by the expeditionary
sustainment expertise of the entire Engineered Support team,"
Potthoff said. "We're excited to play such an important part in
this process." The end result of the base camp study will be a
fully deployable camp that will be adaptable to all different
terrains, and usable in weather conditions from sub-arctic to
tropical. Radian's proposed solution for producing, purifying, and
distributing water on-site will provide NATO and coalition forces
with an alternative to the current method of importing and
delivering bottled or tanked water to remote locations. This will
result in safer, more cost-effective operations, as well as reduce
the amount of logistical planning and cost required to execute such
endeavors. The water generation and distribution study and the base
camp study are part of an organization-wide transformation effort
to improve NATO's ability to uphold its global security
commitments. NATO's ultimate goal is to support the NATO Response
Force (NRF) with the technology and expertise necessary to meet its
needs in a worldwide expeditionary environment. Engineered Support
Systems, Inc. provides advanced sustainment solutions including the
design, manufacture and supply of integrated military electronics,
support equipment and technical and logistics services for all
branches of America's armed forces and certain foreign militaries,
homeland security forces and selected government and intelligence
agencies. The company also produces specialized equipment and
systems for commercial and industrial applications. For additional
