DonorsChoose.org announced today that, in honor of National
Teacher Appreciation Day, News Corp has “flash funded” 147
technology projects at schools in Silicon Valley and beyond.
All existing DonorsChoose.org technology projects in the
following California counties have been fully funded with today's
contribution by News Corp: Santa Clara, San Jose, San Mateo and
Alameda. The contribution is benefiting more than 14,000
students.
“We're so grateful to work with News Corp again to help bring
valuable resources to teachers and students," said Charles Best,
founder and CEO of DonorsChoose.org. “Technology is helping
teachers bring new curriculum into the classroom, and customize
learning opportunities for students at every skill level. These
projects will help provide students the 21st century education
they'll need to succeed.”
News Corp chose the region given its acquisition last year of
Move, Inc., operator of Realtor.com®, which is headquartered in San
Jose.
“At News Corp and Realtor.com®, we believe in giving back and
making a real difference in the communities we live and work
in,” said Ryan O'Hara, CEO of Move, Inc. “We are so pleased
DonorsChoose.org has given us yet another impactful opportunity to
provide innovative teachers and students alike with resources that
support, strengthen and invigorate the learning experience.”
One hundred thirty seven teachers at 97 schools were notified
today that their classroom projects have been funded. Some examples
of the technology-based projects include:
“Robot Needs Power,” Ben Painter Elementary School
(San Jose)Rechargeable batteries for robotics team’s NXT
bots.
“May the Fourth be With Us,” Gilroy High School
(Gilroy)Dual range force sensors for students to perform
experiments in the physics classroom.

DonorsChoose.org has been a Philanthropy Partner of
News Corp since 2014, and was chosen to help the company invest in
and transform communities where many of its people live and work.
Last year, in honor of National Teacher Appreciation Day, News Corp
flash-funded all outstanding DonorsChoose.org school projects in
Brooklyn, NY.
News Corp contributions dovetail with its charitable goals:
enriching the lives of vulnerable youth, advancing innovation in
K-12 education, improving digital literacy, supporting a free press
and aiding veterans.
About DonorsChoose.org
Founded in 2000, DonorsChoose.org makes it easy for anyone to
help a classroom in need. At this nonprofit website, teachers at
half of all the public schools in America have created project
requests, and more than a million people have donated
$323 million to projects that inspire them. All told, 14
million students—most from low-income communities, and many in
disaster-stricken areas—have received books, art supplies, field
trips, technology, and other resources that they need to learn.
