DETROIT, MICHIGAN-October 14, 2013 - American Axle & Manufacturing (AAM) announced today it was selected as a 2014 Automotive News PACE Awards finalist for its EcoTracTM Disconnecting All Wheel Drive (AWD).  This industry first technology is featured on a major crossover vehicle program launching this year.

AAM's EcoTracTM Disconnecting AWD is an innovative approach to provide enhanced vehicle control while maximizing fuel economy by disconnecting many of the rotating components from the driveline when they are not needed.  EcoTrac(TM) enables an AWD vehicle to utilize its primary drive system, the front wheels, when AWD is not required. When the vehicle senses that AWD may be necessary, the system then automatically transfers to AWD, without disturbance to the driver. As a result, EcoTracTM provides reduced emissions and the benefits of an all-wheel-drive system without incurring the traditional one to three mile per gallon fuel economy penalty.

"AAM's new EcoTracTM Disconnecting AWD responds to the requirements of Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards, consumer needs and global concerns," said David C. Dauch, Chairman, President & CEO of AAM.  "AAM is committed to developing innovative technologies to strengthen our position as a product, process and systems technology leader and we are pleased to be recognized as a PACE Award finalist."

The Automotive News PACE Awards honor superior innovation, technological advancement, and business performance among automotive suppliers. AAM was chosen among 34 other innovative finalists for the 2014 awards.
