AAM World Headquarters Achieves Industry's Best Energy Efficiency Certification - ISO 50001
24 Gennaio 2014 - 2:00PM
Detroit,
Michigan, January 24, 2014 - American Axle &
Manufacturing (AAM) today announced that AAM's World Headquarters
located in Detroit, Michigan has earned ISO 50001 certification.
This is AAM's first facility to receive this certification.
ISO 50001 is the top international
standard certification program for driving continuous improvements
in energy efficiency through energy management systems. Earning the
ISO 50001 certification provides proof that AAM has implemented
sustainable energy management systems, completed a baseline of its
energy use, and committed to continual improvement in energy
performance. Currently, only 34 companies in the United States are
certified and only 15 of those are in the automotive industry.
This achievement marks another
milestone on AAM's path toward excellence in energy
efficiency. AAM's World Headquarters earned the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) Energy Star certification in 2009, marking
the company's first step toward energy efficiency. As of
December 2013, the facility's monthly Energy Performance Rating
(EPR) was 85, which indicates its placement within the top 15
percent of similar energy efficient buildings in the country.
Additionally, prior to earning ISO 50001 certification, AAM's World
Headquarters obtained Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
(LEED) certification from the United States Green Building Council
in 2013. Since 2008, the facility has reduced its energy
consumption by over 26 percent, resulting in annual savings of over
$125 thousand in energy cost.
"Earning ISO 50001 certification
in addition to the previous LEED and Energy Star accomplishments is
an honor and demonstrates AAM's commitment to the environment, lean
concepts and improving efficiency in energy," said AAM Chairman,
President & Chief Executive Officer David C. Dauch. "AAM's
World Headquarters' certification will serve as a model for our
other locations to follow as we are committed to social and
environmental responsibility in all communities in which we are
located."
