ATCO Gas showcased environmental leadership Tuesday with the official opening of
the Viking Operations Centre, the company's first geothermal facility that draws
on heat energy from within the earth's crust.

"The Viking Operations Centre showcases ATCO's commitment to the environment by
piloting the use of alternative energy technology," said Siegfried Kiefer,
Managing Director, Utilities & Chief Information Officer, ATCO Group. "This
flagship facility raises the bar for sustainable-building standards at ATCO."

The new 5,576 square-foot ATCO facility includes heat-exchanger pipes installed
into 14 bore holes drilled 200 feet deep into the earth. It also contains energy
efficient lighting, insulation and a high-efficiency water heater. The building
has been designed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 15 tonnes
annually.

Added Brian Hahn, President, ATCO Gas: "Today marks another great milestone for
our company. The new Viking Operations Centre helps us reduce our local carbon
footprint while improving operational efficiency so we can provide exceptional
customer service and maintain delivery rates among the lowest in Canada."

The Viking Operations Centre is the first business located in a new business
park, jointly developed and owned by the Town of Viking and Beaver County. It is
one of several green initiatives the ATCO Group of Companies is undertaking
including geothermal and solar thermal projects in both southeast Calgary and
the Town of Okotoks.

"Viking is an environmentally advanced community and is becoming a leading
centre for environmental innovation," said Nancy Southern, President & Chief
Executive Officer, ATCO Group. "This new facility complements the new business
park and the economic growth the community is pursuing."
