ATCO Electric today introduced the Alberta utility industry's first hybrid
maintenance vehicle to its fleet - a bucket truck that operates on electricity
and diesel to significantly reduce environmental impact during power line work.

"ATCO Electric is again demonstrating industry leadership as we continuously
explore new and innovative ways to reduce our impact on the environment," said
Sett Policicchio, President, ATCO Electric at the unveiling ceremony. "With
Alberta's first hybrid utility truck, we will reduce our carbon footprint
without compromising the safe, reliable service our customers expect and count
on."

With an enclosed work platform, or bucket, fitted at the end of a hinged arm
extended during aerial maintenance and repair operations, the environmentally
progressive vehicle will be deployed in Grande Prairie: an urban setting that
faces diverse weather conditions.

Hybrid bucket trucks have the potential to reduce fuel consumption by up to 60
per cent, with the improved fuel economy cutting carbon monoxide, nitrous oxide
and particulate matter by up to 70 per cent. Idling and noise are also reduced
by as much as 80 per cent as battery power is used instead of diesel during
operation of equipment.

ATCO Electric provides safe, reliable delivery of electricity to 197,000
customers in 245 communities across Alberta and is part of the ATCO Group of
Companies. ATCO Group is an Alberta-based, worldwide organization of companies
with more than 7,700 employees actively engaged in Power Generation, Utilities,
and Global Enterprises. More information about ATCO can be found on its website
