Four ATCO Group companies are providing support to a much-needed
fire-rescue training centre in High Prairie. The centre will
provide hands-on and practical training for emergency rescue
personnel throughout Northwestern Alberta.
"ATCO has many employees who serve on volunteer fire departments
throughout the province. As a result, we are pleased to support the
High Prairie Fire-Rescue Society, who, like the people of ATCO,
consider safety to be paramount," said Nancy Southern, President
& Chief Executive Officer, ATCO Group.
ATCO Electric, ATCO Gas, ATCO Power and ATCO Midstream are the
participating companies. Along with contributing financially to the
centre, ATCO experts will provide training support in the area of
electrical and gas related emergencies. High Prairie Fire Chief Ken
Melnyk said the support is crucial to the success of the
program.
"In order to provide the highest degree of safety for the
community, it's important for our emergency personnel to receive
comprehensive training in a realistic setting," said Chief Melnyk.
"The training centre will enhance the region's firefighting and
emergency-response capabilities, which will help guarantee the
safety of residents in Northwestern Alberta."
Named the ATCO High Prairie Fire-Rescue Society
EmergencyTraining Centre, the facility is expected to open in the
fall of 2009. While it will be located next to the High Prairie
airport, it will provide training support to fire departments
throughout Northwestern Alberta, from Lesser Slave Lake to the
Northwest Territories.
ATCO will make a formal presentation at the High Prairie
Emergency Services Spring Ball, tomorrow night at the Elks Hall in
High Prairie.
ATCO Electric and ATCO Gas provide utility service to nearly 300
