With harvest time upon us, farmers are heading to their fields with bigger and
better equipment - some of it taller than many power lines. As a result, ATCO
Electric is asking farmers to plan ahead and call ATCO Electric before moving
their tall farm equipment near or under power lines.

"Contacting a power line can be fatal. It can also lead to damage or loss of
equipment and power outages, so prevention is key," said Bobbi Lambright,
President, Operations Division, ATCO Electric. "That means calling ATCO first so
that we can help plan the safest route around power lines."

ATCO Electric will determine power line heights on nearby roads, between fields
and on farms - anywhere farmers might travel with equipment that may be taller
than power lines. Where equipment is higher than power lines, ATCO Electric will
raise the lines to allow the equipment to safely travel under them.

A safety incentive is available to ATCO Electric farm customers. Any customer
moving agricultural equipment may be eligible to receive up to four hours of
free ATCO Electric labour per move.

In 2009, ATCO Electric recorded 60 incidents of farm equipment contacting power
poles and power lines. Of those contacts, 28 were directly with overhead power
lines. While early indications show a decline in the number of incidents in
2010, past records show that many contacts occur in the fall months.

To contact ATCO Electric about your next move or for more information about the
safety incentive, call the Customer Assistance Centre at 1-800-668-2248 and ask
for your local office. The Centre is open Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.

ATCO Electric is open 24 hours a day year-round to respond to power line and
emergencies and can be reached by calling 1-800-668-5506.
