PR Newswire (US)
SEATTLE, Aug. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Alaska Airlines today
began daily nonstop service between Los Angeles International
Airport (LAX) and Mexico City, marking an important milestone in
the airline's expanding service to Mexico. The airline will add a
second daily flight on Oct. 30. "This is the 'jewel in the crown'
of Alaska Airlines' Mexico service," said Julian Acosta y Castella,
director general for Alaska's Mexico operations. "The new route to
Mexico City underscores our 17-year tradition of reliable and
friendly air service between Mexico and U.S. destinations at
competitive fares." The new daily nonstop flight departs LAX at
11:51 p.m. Pacific time and arrives in Mexico City at 5:36 a.m.
Central time. For customers traveling from Seattle to Mexico City,
a Seattle-LAX flight departing Seattle at 7:50 p.m. Pacific time
and arriving at LAX at 10:25 p.m. offers a conveniently timed
connection. One-stop continuing service on the same aircraft from
Seattle to Mexico City via Los Angeles will begin Sept. 11. The
daily northbound flight departs Mexico City at 6:36 a.m. Central
time and arrives at LAX at 8:34 a.m. Pacific time. This flight
continues to Seattle from Los Angeles at 10:30 a.m. and arrives in
Seattle at 1 p.m. Flying the LAX-Mexico City route will be a Boeing
737-700 aircraft featuring leather seats, 12 in first class seats
and 112 in coach. The flight includes complimentary hot snack or
meal service. The second daily flight starting Oct. 30 will offer
one-stop continuing service to and from Portland, Ore. Both
routings will allow passengers to easily connect to cities in the
Pacific Northwest, British Columbia, Alaska and throughout Alaska
Airlines' network. "Alaska Airlines has pursued this important
route for more than a decade," said Gregg Saretsky, Alaska
Airlines' executive vice president of marketing and planning. "As
Mexico's business, government and cultural center, Mexico City will
be a popular addition to our growing United States-Mexico network.
We expect both business and leisure travelers to take advantage of
our affordable fares between Los Angeles and Mexico City and
convenient connections to other U.S. West Coast cities." The U.S.
Department of Transportation awarded Alaska the route in May,
making it one of only four airlines authorized to provide service
between Los Angeles and Mexico City. The United States-Mexico
bilateral agreement, which governs air service between the two
countries, limits service on the route to two carriers from each
country. Alaska began service to Mexico in 1988 and now flies more
than a million passengers annually to nine Mexican destinations. In
addition to Mexico City, the airline flies between Los Angeles and
Loreto, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Manzanillo, Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo,
Mazatlan, Guadalajara and Cancun. Alaska Airlines and sister
carrier, Horizon Air, together serve more than 80 cities through an
expansive network throughout Alaska, the Lower 48, Canada and
Mexico. For reservations visit alaskaair.com. For more news and
