Independent oil and gas producer Devon Energy Corp. (DVN) said Thursday it's eliminating some positions as result of the merging of its Gulf of Mexico and international divisions.

Devon spokesman Chip Minty told Dow Jones Newswires that no more than 75 positions will be affected by the restructuring and added that the company is cutting some jobs to eliminate duplication of work.

According to a person close to the company, at least half a dozen managers were laid off Wednesday and more cuts are likely to come.

Minty said the company plans to issue a press release on the restructuring.

The Oklahoma City-based company has about 5,500 employees.
