Historically, low-split products with downstream speeds far exceeding upstream capabilities were sufficient for email, web browsing, and video streaming. Today’s needs, including video conferencing, livestreaming and the use of smart home surveillance, have necessitated mid-split products to provide increased bandwidth for upstream traffic. According to OpenVault, average upload usage has grown 290% since 2019.
