Basel/Liechtenstein, 3 October 2008. Baloise Group has launched "RentaSafe" -
an innovative generation of financial products which offer both investment
opportunities and guaranteed lifelong annuities. "RentaSafe" is based on the
variable annuity (VA) concept. Variable annuities are fund-linked pension
policies offering guaranteed annuity payments and/or a guaranteed accumulated
sum. VAs are geared primarily to the burgeoning proportion of the population
aged 50 or over.
 
Owing to demographic shifts, VAs have in recent years become one of the most
favoured pension models in the industrialized societies of the USA and Japan.
This form of pension is now also attracting a growing following in Europe. VAs
are popular because they allow customers aged 50 or over the opportunity to
participate via funds in the performance of the equity markets. At the same
time, they tend to offer a higher guaranteed lifelong annuity than that of
traditional products, even if fund performance levels fail to match
expectations.
 
Headed by CEO Annemie D'Hulster and established just a few months ago, Baloise
Life (Liechtenstein) AG is a product factory geared to developing fund-linked
life insurance solutions for Baloise Group's sale channels as well as
third-party sales organizations.
 
Following the Swiss launch of "RentaSafe", additional core markets and product
launches in other European countries are expected to follow from 2009 onwards.
In these uncertain economic times, Baloise is taking the initiative by offering
its customers investment opportunities courtesy of a new generation of secure
retirement provision and life insurance products.
 
Baloise Life CEO Annemie D'Hulster believes this latest product innovation
offers a number of benefits. "Generally speaking, there has been a strong demand
for life and retirement provision products in recent months," she says.
"RentaSafe is a new product offering one of the highest guaranteed lifelong
annuities around. Yet when the stock markets are doing well, it also offers the
possibility of an additional performance bonus. What is more, our customers have
