Basel/Bad Homburg/Hamburg, 11 Nov 2008. The Baloise Group is placing its German
business units, Basler Versicherungen, Deutscher Ring Sachversicherungs-AG (DR
Sach) and Deutscher Ring Lebensversicherungs-AG (DR Leben) under uniform
management. They will have one and the same Management Board. The plan is for
Frank Grund to become the new CEO - he is currently CEO of Basler
Versicherungen. As of 26 Nov 2008, the CEO of Deutscher Ring, Wolfgang Fauter,
will no longer serve on the Management Board of DR Sach and DR Leben. The plan
also foresees Clemens Fuchs, Hubertus Ohrdorf and Christoph Wetzel, current
members of the Management Board of Basler Versicherungen, becoming members of
the new joint Management Board. Moreover, the Management Board could also
include members from the former Management Board of Deutscher Ring. The
Supervisory Boards of DR Sach and DR Leben will appoint the new Management Board
members on 26 November 2008.

Members of the DR Sach and DR Leben Management Boards will no longer serve on
the Management Board of Deutscher Ring Krankenversicherungsverein a.G. (DR
Kranken). DR Kranken is a legally independent mutual insurance company. The
well-established cooperation between DR Sach, DR Leben and DR Kranken is to be
continued.

"Our German business units have achieved considerable success in recent years",
says Rolf Schuble, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of the Baloise
Group. "By streamlining our management, we are creating structures that are more
efficient and transparent in order to increase our competitiveness in Germany
and thus generate profitable growth. To do this, we will continue with the
well-established partnership with DR Kranken and are committed to the associated
agreements."

In future, the business activities of Basler Versicherungen, DR Sach and DR
Leben will be more closely networked with the aim of bundling the strengths of
property, accident and life insurance in order to expand market access and
generate synergies. The existing business activities will be continued unchanged
for the time being. The location in Hamburg will remain. The central management
of Baloise's German business units will be located in Bad Homburg. The new
Management Board will perform a review across all operations in Germany by
spring 2009. The strengths of all units are taken into account. Specific
statements on the new organization will follow at that time.
