                 Notification of Director's Shareholding
                                    
The  board  of Birkby plc (the "Company") was today notified that  on  7
July  1998  Kim  Taylor-Smith, Deputy Chief Executive,  purchased  2,000
ordinary shares in the Company at 169p per share, representing 0.004 per
cent. of the Company's issued ordinary share capital.  Mr Taylor-Smith's
resultant holding is 30,530 ordinary shares, representing 0.06 per cent.
of the Company's issued ordinary share capital.
