              Bristol Water Holdings plc Member of Watergrid Joint Venture


Bristol Water Holdings plc announces that, in consortium with awg, the water
service and infrastructure group, it has been selected as British Waterways'
partner for Watergrid, a new national joint water venture between the public and
private sectors. The aim is to provide industrial, commercial and
property-development customers with sustainable water solutions. Using the
extensive canal and river network for the movement of water, Watergrid will
serve multiple customer bases with bespoke water services and wastewater
treatment facilities.


A new company, Water Grid Ltd, has been formed between the Bristol Water
Holdings plc/awg consortium and British Waterways, the public corporation which
runs the country's 2,000-mile canal and river network.  The Government's PPP
facilitator Partnerships UK (PUK) is also involved, contributing PPP expertise
and as an investor. Bristol Water Holdings plc has an effective 22.5% equity
interest in the new venture.

because our principal subsidiary, the water supplier Bristol Water plc, has
decades of specialist expertise in handling and treating canal water," said
Group Finance Director Andy Nield. "Over half of the water we supply every day
comes from the River Severn via the Gloucester to Sharpness Canal, and as such
we are the largest user of canal water for the purposes of water supply in the
UK. We pioneered the use of such canals in this way and have demonstrated that
it can be done extremely effectively and efficiently. Watergrid offers a
tremendous opportunity for us to work with our partners to use this expertise in
a wider market."
