            PARTICIPATION IN ADDITIONAL LICENCES IN PORTUGAL               

Chairman, Mr Ian Forrest said today:

"I am pleased to announce that Gaelic is participating in two additional
exploration licences in Portugal.  This brings the total area under licence to
about 921,000 acres covering both onshore and offshore portions of the
Lusitanian Basin.  This area is equivalent to nearly eighteen North Sea Blocks
and contains numerous exploration prospects.  The first exploration well,
Aljubarrota-1, is commencing in early November and additional drilling targets
are under review".

Gaelic, through its recently acquired wholly owned subsidiary company European
Hydrocarbons Limited, already holds a 25% working interest in the Aljubarrota,
Marinha Grande and Figueira da Foz oil and gas exploration licences in
Portugal.  These licences cover about 349,000 acres of the onshore portion of
the Lusitanian Basin.  European Hydrocarbons announces that it has now
exercised its right to participate with the same interest in two adjacent
licences, Sao Pedro De Muel and Sao Mamede, which extends the area under
licence to the offshore portion of the Basin.

Numerous exploration prospects lie in this large block of acreage which is
considered to be prospective for gas.  The geology is broadly similar to the
Southern North Sea and Algeria where large gas fields are trapped in
Permo-Triassic sandstone reservoirs by thick layers of evaporitic salt and
anhydrite.

Onshore exploration well, Aljubarrota-1, is spudding shortly and will test a
large structure that has been identified in the Aljubarrota Licence.  This
structure has the potential to contain recoverable reserves in the range of 1
to 10 trillion cubic feet of gas.
