KURAWOOD SIGNS FIRST UK DISTRIBUTOR
Kurawood PLC announces the appointment of Robbins Timber as an official
distributor of VECOwood
with a minimum target volume of 20,000 m3 in the first year of their
appointment
Kurawood PLC (www.kurawood.com), the manufacturer of VECOwood organically
modified softwood, has signed an agreement with Robbins Timber
(www.robbins.co.uk), a major UK timber importer and international distributor,
for the rights to become the first UK-based distributor of VECOwood.
This Distribution Agreement (the "Agreement") follows two months of joint
discussions and customer trials with a number of Robbins' customers. Under the
Agreement, Robbins Timber has non-exclusive rights in the UK to market VECOwood
with a minimum target volume of 20,000m3 in the first year of their
distributorship. This appointment is the first validation of the business
strategy set out in Kurawood's Admission document issued in September 2007.
VECOwood is currently manufactured by Kurawood PLC from New Zealand Radiata
Pine, a resource supplied entirely from Forestry Stewardship Council
(www.fsc.org) certified fast-growing plantation forests, planted, managed and
harvested with little environmental consequence. Since the practice of
`pruning' and `thinning' is widely used in New Zealand, the logs when sawn and
treated with our VECO formulation produce long wide planks of clear, defect
free VECOwood timber, similar in appearance and physical properties to those
once able to be sourced from huge hardwood specimens.
Richard Bagnall, Managing Director of Robbins Timber said: "We are delighted to
be the first distributor in the UK for VECOwood and KURATM products. Robbins'
national distribution network will ensure that this new timber and products can
be fed into the market through our network of customers in the construction,
retail and marine industries where we are already discovering a very healthy
and growing market for new timber products. We are confident that with our
expertise the 20,000 m3 first year targets set down within the Agreement will
be easily achieved."
Roy Tilleard, Chairman and CEO of Kurawood PLC added: "With over 100 years of
knowledge in the timber trade, and a proud reputation for their fast and
efficient service, Robbins Timber is an ideal distribution partner for VECOwood
. Their commitment and confidence in our product is a powerful endorsement of
the market potential for VECOwood both in rough wood and end-product formats
and through this Agreement we will be able to make VECOwood more rapidly
available to the multitude of architects, engineers, companies and consumers
who are actively seeking an environmentally and economically acceptable
alternative in their choice of building materials. Moreover, as a result of
appointing Robbins and the growing awareness and interest emanating from their
customer base combined with our expectations of additional agreements with our
other qualified prospective customers, the Board are taking immediate steps to
double the capacity of our New Zealand manufacturing facility to 60,000m3 per
annum by mid 2008."
