BICC Support and Doubling of RTP Large-Scale Load Generation Ensure
Robust Network Testing on Spectra2 BEAVERTON, Ore., Dec. 7
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK), a worldwide
provider of communications network management and diagnostics
solutions, announced the availability of new Spectra2 Release 4.4
software that doubles the VoIP and converged network RTP
large-scale load generation features of the market-leading
Spectra2(TM) VoIP testing solution. Additionally, release 4.4
introduces scripting of Bearer Independent Call Control (BICC) call
models in its Monitor, Tester and Generator applications. Spectra2
combined with the WTI RTP board is a state-of-the-art load solution
that can perform large-scale media tests, allowing users to
evaluate busy hour call capacity by simulating load under
ever-increasing, real-world operating conditions. Because users
need the ability to emulate real-world conditions in order to test
and diagnose the quality and reliability of voice services,
large-scale load capacity is critical. Existing WTI RTP users can
see immediate load performance improvements with a software upgrade
to Spectra2 Release 4.4 without the need for a hardware upgrade.
The WTI RTP board uses a wideband trunking interface to generate
real-time transport protocol streams with media, and integrates
with Tektronix' array of VoIP protocol suites. The Spectra2 BICC
Testing Package provides the ability to emulate the BICC Service
Node (SN) for IP media bearer testing and BICC STC transport. BICC
is designed to help carriers migrate from the PSTN to IP-based
networks without loss of legacy network features and services. BICC
is derived from ISUP and represents a critical step toward
broadband multimedia networks, enabling the seamless migration of
circuit-switched TDM networks to IP and high-capacity broadband
multimedia networks. BICC also benefits users implementing the IMS
(IP Multimedia Subsystem) architecture, which defines how IP
networks should handle voice calls and data sessions, and supports
the convergence of wireline, wireless and IP/broadband networks and
services. The addition of BICC support for the Spectra2 allows
carriers to ensure delivery of existing revenue-generating voice
services in a converged network. "Since its introduction, the
Spectra2 large-scale load solution has been the leading VoIP
generation testing platform," said Richard Kenedi, Senior Director,
Diagnostics, Tektronix, Inc. "With BICC support plus double the RTP
load generation capacity, Spectra2 Release 4.4 software remains on
the cutting edge of technology required to meet the needs of
carriers and equipment manufacturers. The value to our customers is
a single-box testing solution that provides high-capacity load
generation for signaling and media in multi- service networks."
Spectra2 Release 4.4, along with the Spectra SS7 testing solution,
are part of Tektronix' Internet Protocol Diagnostics (IPD) product
portfolio that provides network equipment manufacturers and service
providers easy-to-use test and measurement tools for the analysis
and QoS measurement of media over IP and protocols in the core of
converged multiservice networks. About Tektronix Tektronix, Inc. is
