Technology Minerals Plc
("Technology Minerals" or the "Company")
Recyclus
to recycle lithium-ion batteries from AA Battery
Recycling
Technology Minerals Plc (LSE: TM1),
the first listed UK company focused on creating a sustainable
circular economy for battery metals, is pleased to announce that
its 48.35% owned battery recycling business, Recyclus Group Ltd
("Recyclus"), has begun receipt of lithium-ion ("Li-ion") batteries for recycling from AA Battery
Recycling Limited ("AA Battery Recycling"), an Approved Battery
Treatment Operator ("ABTO") specialising in the full range of
battery chemistries from household to industrial.
AA Battery Recycling will send Li-ion
batteries to Recyclus' Wolverhampton plant for processing and
recycling. Recyclus' cutting-edge facility is the only industrial
scale Li-ion battery recycling plant in the UK, able to address the
challenges associated with rising volumes of waste Li-ion batteries
created by the global shift towards electrification.
The agreement enables AA Battery
Recycling to recycle its Li-ion waste in the UK, rather than
exporting the waste materials abroad for treatment, thereby
reducing the cost and complexity of its operations, and removing
the risks associated with storing hazardous spent battery material
awaiting export on site.
Recyclus will receive gate fees for
receiving the Li-ion batteries, as well as any sales of black mass
and other recoverable materials produced from the recycling
process.
Robin Brundle, Chairman of
Technology Minerals and Director of Recyclus, said:
"The agreement
with AA Battery Recycling is a clear demonstration of the pressing
need for Recyclus' industrial scale lithium-ion battery recycling
solution. AA Battery Recycling can now process battery waste
right here in the UK, that would otherwise have been exported for
treatment. Their focus on sustainability is strongly aligned with
our own, making them an ideal partner for Recyclus, and we look
forward to building a strong relationship as we continue to scale
up operations at the Wolverhampton facility."
Anne Bishop, Commercial Director of AA
Battery Recycling, said: "We are
thrilled to partner with Recyclus, which provides a safe and
effective solution for the disposal of Li-ion batteries on an
industrial scale in the UK. As a provider of waste management
solutions to conserve resources, we are delighted to work with a UK
partner who is also committed to driving sustainability in the
battery sector."
