German travel operator TUI Deutschland GmbH posted a 3% rise in sales in summer 2010 and expects further growth in winter, the company said Saturday.

TUI Deutschland, a unit of TUI AG (TUI1.XE), said its customer base increased 5% in the summer season, which runs from April to October.

For the current winter season, it has recorded a 10% cumulated booking increase, prompting it to raise its forecasts. The company now expects sales for the winter season 2010/2011 to clearly increase on year, having previously forecast sales to be flat on the year.

Volker Boettcher, head of TUI Deutschland, attributed the growth to a continued positive consumer trend, higher travel agency sales and Germans' increased desire to travel.

TUI AG is a holding company with assets in tourism and shipping, and owns 52% of Europe's largest travel operator, TUI Travel PLC (TT.LN). TUI AG also owns about 43.3% in German container shipping company Hapag-Lloyd AG.
