ISLANDIA, N.Y., March 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- CA Technologies
(Nasdaq: CA) today announced that it has installed the new IBM®
zEnterprise™ mainframe (z196) and its BladeCenter® Extension (zBX),
and will use the hybrid environment to help customers leverage the
cost and efficiency benefits of cross-enterprise management by
developing new solutions and providing for interoperability between
key products in CA Technologies extensive mainframe and distributed
software portfolio.
CA Technologies is already using the new zEnterprise 196
mainframe server — powered by the world's fastest microprocessors
running at 5.2 Gigahertz and the IBM Smart Analytic Optimizer
integrated into the IBM zEnterprise System with the IBM zEnterprise
BladeCenter Extension (zBX).
CA Technologies also plans to use zBX to provide solutions to
help customers manage integrated workloads that span both mainframe
and distributed platforms.
"zEnterprise can help IT organizations deliver on their mandate
to lower costs, while continuing to offer the highest quality of
service by extending the virtues of the mainframe to distributed
computing," said Dayton Semerjian,
general manager, Mainframe, CA Technologies. "By providing a
cross-enterprise view of areas like application performance
management and workload automation, we are strengthening that value
proposition for our customers."
Semerjian addresses the impact of zEnterprise on the IT
landscape in his keynote, "The Future is Now: Next Generation
Management," presented today at SHARE's bi-annual user
conference.
"Since the mainframe is an ideal platform for cloud computing,
customers can also benefit from the hybrid zEnterprise architecture
in implementing their cross-platform cloud strategies," continued
Semerjian.
According to a recent independent study sponsored by CA
Technologies, 80 percent of respondents named the mainframe as an
important part of their current business strategy, and 73 percent
as part of their cloud plans.
"zEnterprise provides an integrated, hybrid hardware platform
that brings together the IBM zEnterprise mainframe servers with
select IBM Power7 blades and other workload optimized systems,"
said Greg Lotko, vice president and
business line executive, IBM System z. "We are pleased that
CA Technologies has participated in our early adopter program, and
continues to support our efforts to extend the tried and true
System z qualities of service and management capabilities to our
new system for our mutual clients."
