LaserCard Corporation (NASDAQ:LCRD; www.lasercard.com), offered
its congratulations to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration
Services (USCIS), an agency of the U.S. Department of Homeland
Security, and the Chief of the Integrated Document Production
Division, on winning the “Most Effective Border Security Program”
category of the Government Security News 2010 Homeland Security
Awards.
USCIS has been honored for their leadership in improving
Homeland Security by introducing numerous secure innovations in the
recently launched next generation U.S. Permanent Resident Card
(Green Card) program, including the card’s structure, data and
visual security features and advanced, upgraded card
personalization process.
A July 2010 report by market research firm Frost & Sullivan
describes the newly redesigned 2010 U.S. Green Cards as ‘among the
most physically secure and counterfeit-resistant machine-readable
identification cards ever issued’. The new card builds on the
success of the original optical security media based Green Card,
introduced in 1997, and leverages USCIS’ expertise as the world
leader in designing and personalizing secure ID programs based on
optical security media technology. The new card also features an
ICAO-compliant design and an embedded RFID tag, which provides
compatibility with the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI),
thus facilitating land border crossing. Frost & Sullivan
concluded that because of these innovations, ‘the next generation
U.S. Green Card sets a new standard for international government ID
programs.’
“We are pleased that USCIS has been recognized for its
leadership in the innovative application of advanced security
methods and technology,” said Robert DeVincenzi, president and CEO
of LaserCard. “The next generation Green Card breaks new ground in
the field of ID cards, significantly raising the bar for
counterfeiters and forgers while resolving the apparent conflict
between diligent inspection and facilitation of border
crossing.”
The U.S. Green Card is manufactured by LaserCard, a leading
provider of secure ID solutions, and supplied to USCIS by General
Dynamics Information Technology, LaserCard’s prime contractor.
